Kasim Sulton's first 'big gig' came with a band called "Utopia," which had Todd Rundgren as a member. Kasim was a member of Utopia from 1976-1986 as their bass player/vocalist and wrote their only top 20 hit 'Set Me Free' in 1980. Kasim began his career with Meat Loaf as a session bass player on "Bat Out of Hell," as Todd was producing the album, and decided to bring in other members of Utopia to help record the album. Kasim's first solo outing came back in 1982, with his debut album "Kasim." A brief tour followed on the East and West coasts. He co-produced the album as well as had a hand in writing all of the songs.

After Utopia disbanded in 1986, Kasim joined forces with Joan Jett drummer Thommy Price and released 'Lights On', a critically acclaimed album. He joined Joan Jett's band, The Blackhearts in 1988 and performed on three albums, most notably the platinum, "Up Your Alley" in 1988. He was a member of The Blackhearts until 1990. Kasim toured with Patti Smyth, Cheap Trick, and Hall and Oates, before rejoining Utopia in 1992, for a brief reunion tour of Japan.

Kasim can be heard on releases by Steve Hillage, Shawn Cassidy, Todd Rundgren, Jim Steinman, the Indigo Girls, Rick Derringer, Patti Smith, Tom Robinson, Steve Stevens, Ronnie Spector, Joan Jett, Johnny Hates Jazz, Celine Dion and countless other artists and bands. Kasim made a brief cameo appearance in the movie "Roadie", and can be found on the movie's soundtrack, as well as the soundtrack to the movie, "The All-nighter."

In 1993, Kasim released his second solo album titled "The Bassment Tapes", and it was sold primarily to fans of Utopia through one of their e-zines. Recently re-released on CD, "The Basement Tapes"(yes the title changed slightly) are available through Amazon.com.

Kasim also can be found on Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell II," "Welcome to the Neighborhood," "Live Around the World," "The Very Best of Meat Loaf," "Storytellers" and "Couldn't Have Said it Better" albums, and was part of Meat's last six tours. He also arranged the background vocals on "Welcome to the Neighborhood." Kasim also co produced Meat's single, "Is Nothing Sacred". It was re-recorded to be a duet with Patti Russo.

Kasim was part of a Todd Rundgren album and various tours,"With a Twist"-old hits restyled in a Bossa Nova lounge style. He produced an as of now unreleased album for up and coming singer John Dillon. Kasim also toured the world playing bass guitar for Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi fame and also assisted Jon Bon Jovi in an impromptu performance at an anniversary bash for Bon Jovi's fan club in 1999.

After Meat's UK/Europe tour for the "Very Best of" album in 1999, which saw Kasim playing bass and taking on the role of musical director for the first time, Kasim toured with Todd Rundgren once again, as part of the band for the "Half Twisted" tour. After that, Kasim mixed and edited the VH-1 program "Hard Rock Live" for Meat's performance on the show, as well as mixing and producing the live "Storyteller's" cd. He also edited, mixed and produced the Storyteller's Video and DVD editions. Then in 1999, Kasim was the musical director and bass player of the first VH-1 Storytellers tour when Meat took it on the road.

Amazingly enough, in between working for Meat, Todd and his own solo work, Kasim had also found time for other projects. One of which was being the backing vocalist and bassist for one third of Ricky Byrd's band. Kasim can be heard as part of the "Ricky Byrd Trio" on Ricky Byrd's latest live cd release. To buy the cd, go to Rickybyrd.com. While Kasim worked on his own solo CD and career, he also produced promo CD's for singers Patti Russo and Elaine Fiddler. Kasim also toured with Todd Rundgren again in the year 2000 as part of Todd's "Power Trio."

In the year 2001, Kasim devoted more time to his solo career with his very first solo acoustic tour. His tour proved to be very successful and Kasim enjoyed himself so much, he has plans to keep working on his solo work and tour as often as he can. At one of his first solo shows in New York City, on April 14th, 2001, he had special guest Patti Russo perform a song with him. They performed the Todd Rundgren classic, "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference." To download a sound sample, click here.

Kasim's second solo tour took place in early 2002, with dates around the United States. His album, Quid Pro Quo, was released on September 4, 2002 with a small indie label, Sphere Sound Records. He promoted it by having another small solo tour and also was one of the opening acts of Meat Loaf's Having Fun tours that year. Three songs Kasim wrote for Quid Pro Quo are: "Over for Now," "Before She Was Gone" and "Sometimes Love is a Dangerous Thing". The first two can be heard at KasimInfo.com, and are beautiful ballad type tracks. The third track can only be described as a fast, upbeat and catchy song of love gone wrong. Although, the third song never made it to the final track listing of the album, Kasim sometimes plays it in concert during his solo shows nonetheless. Kasim's CD has even been for sale at Meat Loaf and Todd Rundgren shows, proving just how well liked and respected Kasim is among his peers.

In 2003 and some of 2004, Kasim worked a great deal with Meat Loaf once again, to help promote Meat Loaf's latest album, Couldn't Have Said it Better, on which Kasim sings backing vocals and performs bass. There was a vast amount of promotion early in 2003 overseas in Europe and the UK, and it all was leading up to Meat Loaf's "Last World Tour," which saw Kasim once again performing bass and acting as Musical Director. Since he was such a success for the two prior tours, he was again given the spot of opening act in some cities in the United States and most of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Kasim and his music was so well received by fans, by the end of the first UK leg of the tour in January 2004, he had sold out all of the copies of his cd, Quid Pro Quo, that he had brought with him to sell!

In between legs of the Meat Loaf tour, Kasim did manage to make one solo appearance in February 2004, and filmed it as a possible DVD release for his fans.

After the Meat Loaf tour wrapped up in early 2004, Kasim returned to touring with Todd Rundgren as part of his band the Liars, to promote Todd's release titled Liars. This tour had Kasim playing bass and singing backing vocals, but one of the visual highlights was that Todd, Kasim and the other band members would wear 'unusual' costumes - Kasim dressed as a priest for the first half of the show; believe it or not it fit with Todd's vision of what he wanted to get across to his audiences.

While on tour with Todd in September, Kasim was asked by Tommy Burns, who plays guitar for Billy Joel, to perform in the Broadway musical, Movin' Out for a few select shows. As part of the band, which was visible during the performance of the show, Kasim played rhythm guitar and sang vocals for a few songs. Kasim also headed back into the studio with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts to begin work on her next album release.

In 2005, Kasim participated in a "Bands Reunited" Special for VH-1 that involved Patty Smyth and Scandal. Kasim was then asked to tour with the band for a short USA tour in the early part of the year. Also in 2005, Kasim toured with Meat Loaf again for the "Hair of the Dog" tour which lasted much of the Summer. This tour was also documented by KSultonbass.com, as Kasim was working on and testing a new signature bass to be released once it met Kasim's strict specifications. Kasim then began recording sessions for Meat Loaf's Bat III, and in between that, was asked to be a member of The New Cars. The Cars rehearsed for much the remainder of the year, after Kasim had wrapped up his last performance in Movin' Out on Broadway.

The New Cars and Meat Loaf took up much of Kasim's time in 2006. If he wasn't recording with Meat Loaf, he was touring and performing with The New Cars. Unfortunately, in June of that year, the touring was cut short when Elliot Easton had broken his collar bone in a small bus accident. It however meant that Kasim was able to do more solo shows and did a brief tour to the delight of his fans. For the rest of 2006, Kasim also worked on more recording sessions with Meat Loaf. Bat Out of Hell III was released in the Fall of 2006 on Halloween, and there were promotional concerts and appearances for the rest of the year for Kasim, including appearances on The Megan Mullaly Show, Dick Clark's Rockin New Years and appearances in the UK and Europe. In December of 2006, Kasim also somehow managed to fit in a couple of solo shows as well!

The beginning of 2007 Kasim toured as part of his "All Sides" tour, it was in anticipation of his long awaited compilation album, "All Sides." Released in March of that year, it consisted of two discs, some demo tracks never heard before, and some new releases as well. Kasim chose rare gems in hopes that even the most devoted of Kasim fans would find something new and special in his music.

The Spring and Summer of 2007 found Kasim not just on tour with Meat Loaf but also back on the road with The New Cars as well. He literally jumped from one tour to the next without a second thought. In between select Summer shows of the Meat Loaf tour in the USA, Kasim also managed to do a few solo shows. This brought him to cities that he never performed solo in before, which included Toronto Canada and Fort Lauderdale Florida. After the Summer USA Meat Loaf tour, Kasim then traveled to the West Coast to perform as Todd Rundgren's band for a brief tour with him. The rest of the year will find him touring with Meat Loaf on his ongoing "3 Bats/Seize the Night" tour, as well as a small solo tour of his own this winter.

Kasim has much more in store for his fans, stay tuned to this talented musician and artist, you'll never know what he is going to work on next!
